Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is a dynamic system that integrates breath, movement, postures, meditation, sound, and relaxation. Each session includes pranayama, a sequence of exercises (kriya), relaxation, and meditation.

It originated in India and gradually spread to Europe and North America during the 20th century, becoming part of modern yoga practice.

It is not about perfecting poses. It is about the nervous system, the breath, and the ability to feel the body from within and find a place of support in yourself.

The practice follows a natural rhythm:
breath – movement – awareness – integration.

First, we open the space through breath, then move the energy through the body, and finally allow everything to settle in meditation.

Regular sadhana can also be part of the practice, supporting the development of a personal rhythm and a deeper connection with yourself.

Opening and Closing the Space

Kundalini Yoga has its own way of opening and closing the space. It is not just a formal ritual, but a gentle tuning of the nervous system and the creation of a sense of safety.

Each session begins and ends with sound, guiding attention inward, slowing the mind, and bringing a sense of grounding in the body.

Sound holds a special place in this practice. It is not music or singing in the usual sense, but a way of working with vibration that directly affects the nervous system. When we create sound with our own voice, it resonates not only in the space around us, but also within the body.

These vibrations gently stimulate the vagus nerve, supporting relaxation, regulation, and inner balance. The breath naturally deepens, the body softens, and the mind becomes quieter.

Sound gradually brings us back to a rhythm that is calm, present, and stable.

Mangalacharan Mantra and the Inner Space of Safety

After the opening mantra, the protective and grounding chant Aad Guray Nameh, Jugaad Guray Nameh, Sat Guray Nameh, Siri Guru Devay Nameh follows. This sequence is known as the Mangalacharan mantra.

Its essence lies in gently surrendering to a wisdom that is greater than us, while at the same time recognizing it as a natural part of ourselves. A sense of safety begins to emerge in the body, the nervous system centers, softens, and opens.

A space is created where the process can unfold — through movement, breath, meditation, or the release of emotions.

This practice can also include a simple visualization of light. The four lines of the mantra create a subtle field around the body, supporting stability, clarity, and inner guidance. Light here is not something external, but a quality of awareness that appears in different directions.

Aad Guray Nameh
Light on the left side represents the original guidance and intuition. It brings a sense of softness and inner balance.

Jugaad Guray Nameh
Light behind the body symbolizes support from the past. What has shaped us becomes a foundation rather than a burden.

Sat Guray Nameh
Light on the right side represents truth and clarity in the present moment. It brings stability and a sense of direction.

Siri Guru Devay Nameh
Light in front of us opens the path forward. It is a form of guidance that moves gently, without pressure.

This simple practice helps the body feel safe and grounded. In this state, attention naturally turns inward, creating space for a deeper experience.

May the long time sunshine upon you, all love surround you,
and the pure light within you guide your way on.

It is a blessing we offer first to ourselves, and then to everyone around us. In the yogic tradition, this is not just the “end of the class,” but a conscious integration of the experience into the nervous system. The words of this song create a gentle afterglow and a sense that something kind, true, and alive remains within us even after the practice ends.

The closing is marked by a long Sat Nam.
Sat means truth.
Nam means identity — who we are.

It is an exhale through which the body remembers the quality of presence. An invitation to live not from the noise of the mind, but from the truth felt within the body.

In this way, the space of Kundalini Yoga opens and closes — through sound, attention, and a return to oneself. A simple ritual that creates continuity between what happens on the mat and everyday life.

Kundalini Yoga is a return to oneself.
A remembering that the body is home, not a battlefield.
A release of tension carried for years.
A breath that finally reaches deeper.
A silence that is not empty, but full of presence.
